Phillip Bacon
Bio
My name is Phillip Bacon. I am originally from New York, but have lived in Colorado since the summer of 1998. I am currently a junior in the Mechanical Engineering program at CSU. I started work for the EECL in December of 2006. Before coming to the lab I worked as an engineering technician for the USDA Agricultural Research Service. While there I was trained as a machinist. I have worked on just about every type of machine ranging from semi-trucks to center-pivots to some of the largest tractors. At the lab I am currently working with Solix on their bio-fuels research, I have also installed High Pressure Fuel Injection on the GMV at the lab. Another area that I will be helping with is installing and testing an 8.3L Cummins Natural gas engine. While at the USDA I designed and built a sprayer tractor from the ground up. My true love, however, is Diesel engines. With my degree I would like to focus on this area of study. Some other information about me, I have a wonderful wife Katie who has always been there for me. I also enjoy working cattle on my in-laws ranch, and working on vehicles and our house. I also design and build horseshoe artwork, as well as any type of metalwork. My favorite project lately has been to design and build a turbo-charging system for a 1939 Caterpillar road grader for my father-in-law. The lab has given me so much in the few months that I have been here. I know that my experiences and knowledge will continue to grow as I will at the lab.
